To sum it up:
"The 2010 has a little bit more punch to it between 6 and 8k but you can replicate it on the 09 with the addition of a power commander"

I'm disappointed with yamaha and relieved at the same time. I'm disappointed that they didn't redesign the bike to make larger improvements. I thought they planned to do that every two years. But at the same time, I'm relieved because I bought an 08 and since they didn't make drastic changes that means parts should be somewhat universal. I'd like to see the sales numbers of the 08 and 09 versus previous generations. I'd guess that Big-Y is satisfied with the sales so why change something thats selling. Either that or they are trying to cut spending to ride the roller-coaster global economy and research/development is where most companies spend big bucks. Maybe they spent too much money engineering the new M1 and didnt have any left for the public version...
Just a thought.

The reason they didn't do a redesign this year is because the 2011 R6 is going to be pretty damn special...

Your probably right. The last major update was 2006. About every six or so years you see a new platform. But, then again the economy may prolong it.

That's what I'm thinking..
Look back for your answers.. 99 and 00 were the same bike, SMALL updates for 01 and 02.
03 was a WHOLE new bike, 04 was the same exact bike. 05 was a SLIGHTLY updated one.
06 was a WHOLE new bike, 07 was exactly the same.
08 was SLIGHTLY updated, 09 was the same, '10 was the same.
'11 should be the year for the new shit. :fact

Exactly how I feel. I hate the feeling of thinking if I were to have waited a little longer I could have had something better. I bought my 08 in May of 2008 and the 09's came out a few months later. I was happy they were the same, and it still makes me feel good the 10's are the same. I'm looking forward to a change with the 11's though, should be pretty sweet.

For anyone phrasing it as a question:
Yamaha have already announced that the 2011 R6 will be a silhouette replica of the 2009 M1. It will have some similar technology, although it's a kick in the snatch that after announcing this they're going back to thous.
Anyway, point being that if you want to LOOK LIKE you're riding an M1, wait for 2011. If you want an M1 proper you probably better start practicing...

So is the 2010 as good as the 2008? Thats what I wanna know since the '09 lost some top end over the '08.
Also, its been reported that the update schedule for japanese models is fubar due to the economic situation. Motorcycle companies are getting absolutely hammered, I heard new bike sales were down like 40%, developing new models takes money.

No. They will never run a cross-plane crank in a 600cc motor. The benefits don't outweigh the costs.

the 08-10 engines are replicas of each other. the "top end" "mid range" bullshit (although true) is all just different fuel mapping. a PC negates any of these differences anyway. if you buy any bike in the last 3 years that says R6 on the side of it, you just bought the same bike. if anyone brings up the 2010 exhaust can, you're getting an internet backhand :laugh

Meh, you need to be a fooking amazing rider to make a 08 go any faster than an 06, and with the 3k you can save by buying an 06 you can kit the thing out to be way faster anyway (And I'm not talking zorst, PC btw)
